IT'S PARK CHANG WOOK'S FAULT.

According to reports coming in from the mainstream media, the Virginia Tech shooter was obsessed with "Old Boy," the brilliant film from Korean director Park Chang Wook. A couple of his video poses aped shots from the revenge-themed film. Mr. Park specializes in violent films with convoluted plots, in which the powerless get their revenge on their oppressors. He is a smart and stylized filmmaker, juxtaposing disturbing imagery with bracing narratives. I would suggest that you check out his movies, especially "Old Boy," "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance," and "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance." He's easily one of the most important cinematic voices coming out of Asia today.

It's a shame this sad little psycho became empowered by his work.
