HOMELY PLANET ON VILE JOURNAL

I seem to have let this blogging thing go... after five years of ferociously posting, something's happened.

Is anyone reading anymore?

I used to get tons of comments on this blog. I could FEEL it getting read, but now, like a sad, discarded toy, I sense that it's floating in the ether, far away from inquisitive eyes. My partner in crime Scouser comes along, but aside from him, it's perty qui-et 'round these parts.

That's my fault more than any, since if I had something more compelling to say, more people would be reading. I also blame another culprit:

Facebook.

Since signing up for facebook a year or two ago, it has gradually consumed more of my time. And A LOT of people who used to come here and read my blog, can now see it when it's imported over there - which isn't really the same, now is it? This blog loses a lot of its power when viewed on facebook, and it just doesn't LOOK as cool.

I also used to get a lot of traffic from pusanweb, but they've changed their blogroll for the worst. Again I'm imported over there (when I tag it), and any comments left must be done so at THEIR webpage - which people gotta register for, and get a password, and jump through a bunch of ball achey hoops that NO ONE wants to do.

Maybe this is for the best. I'll keep this blog around but I do have a lot of other outlets these days, and not all of my writing is meant for public consumption anymore.

I appreciate those of you who have stuck around, though.

I'm still here. LJ has been my constant companion for 9 years. It's not about to end. :)

I did read your posts on facebook before reading them on lj though so that would also tell you how things are shifting and changing. Facebook's interface is so damn smart.
Thanks. I'm still reading yours, as well.
Facebook is definitely King right now. But to me, it's more focused on casual communication. LJ represents a more thorough forum. Unfortunately, the masses favor casual snippets. No one makes the time or has the interest in reading more than a paragraph anymore.

One LJ trick that works for me is finding a Community that may be interested in the specifics of your post. Join that community and post it there. That seems to draw feedback perty well.
As a follow-up to finding an LJ community that would be relevant to your postings, it seems like a good way to go fishing for new LJ-friends. With time, LJers drift away and you need to replenish the ranks. Or maybe you're getting enough feedback from your other outlets that you don't feel a need to try to rejuvenate your LJ.
I like my LJ and have been neglecting it lately, so perhaps I should put more energy in finding new "friends."

I do post a lot to the travel writing community and have come in contact with a number of people through there.
You're still on my friends list!
As are you mine!

multiples

is it the same person writing all the time? was always under the impression the a group of roommates used this blog to write their individual takes on life and the weekend. now i am confused. you should stop the facebook instead. government invention to gather information. you know it is true. just ask your dog makali

Re: multiples

Umm.. there's just one of me.
For what it's worth, I still read your blog here, when I have time. I don't comment unless I have something to say that I think is interesting, but I do enjoy reading it.
Thanks! I hope to be infusing it with a bit more energy in the near future...
Reader.

Facebook & Twitter are for sound bites. Facebook will eventually go the way of Friendster, Tribe, etc. A new one will arise to take it's place. All because people continually get butt hurt when they've been "unfriended" because of divorce, loss of job or whatever else and are forced to move on to rebuild a community after they've burned their bridges elsewhere.

Twitter is weird. I only find it mildly amusing when famous quirky people write something. Lily Allen did a pretty inventive scavenger hunt thing for tickets using Twitter when she last went on tour. But is that about as far as it can be taken?

As long as you don't write about dreams, I'll keep reading. Man, I really hate seeing, "last night I had the weirdest dream... "
+1 and well said, lady! I still read and enjoy your blog here, my man. Keep up the hilarious drunken good work.

I've been reading your blog for a couple months as I plan to move to Busan in March. I think I found it through pusanweb, thought it was funny and ended up reading most of your posts. Don't give up on it, I was nervous about dropping everything and moving to Busan, but your blog posts were always funny and interesting and helped me decide without a doubt that this is something that I definately want to do. Keep up the good work, and if your still around, maybe we can grab a beer when I make it to Busan in March.

Humble suggestion

"I could FEEL it getting read, but now, like a sad, discarded toy, I sense that it's floating in the ether, far away from inquisitive eyes."

Discarded toys don't "float in the ether", at least not in my parish.

Maybe your crappy mixed metaphors are driving readers away?

Re: Humble suggestion

Hahaha. Well, we can't always be Shakespeare.

And I was being purposely over-the-top in tone.

Well, you're reading and commenting, so that makes you the chump, doesn't it?

Jog on.

Re: Humble suggestion

Perhaps. So now, like a dispirited chump, I will jog on into the ether.

Jus breaking balls, hombre. I like your blog. I like you.

Hugs,

JB

Re: Humble suggestion

Hahaha.

I somehow figured I was getting abused by one of my own...
I'm rather glad your LJ's still here...so many of the ones I like to read are disappearing!

Keep on writing! Always a great read...

I dont pay for my blog by the way but hear me out on dis Showbiz,

Dont sell yer arse all over the place. Fakebeaut is for wankers, just look at how many people you have or have wanted to delete from the 'friends list' for the constant flow of inane, unrighteous drivel that that they post. Be carefull who you are associated with. For prides sake alone.

Its not that Im actualy arsed about where you write. But your lyrics are much more suited to this place. Pick the pace back up. Let it flow hombre.

Scouser (no one reads me, but they all want to be me).
Thanks, baby.

I think a lot more people read you than you think. It's just a bit of a ball ache to comment at your blog.
I still read. You're hilarious and on point.
i'm still around and reading, though i'm lame and hardly ever comment Anywhere in LJ anymore. i also don't write/post photos which is a shame. i hope when things get sorted out w/ crazy-employment-stress i can slowly start to get back into it once again.

anyway, keep writing SOMEWHERE. i like to read.
